New coronavirus infections in Austria continue to rise. According to the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Health, 1727 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours. On average over the past week, 1747 were thus infected with SARS-CoV-2 every day, bringing the seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants to 137.4. There was a significant increase in intensive care patients. Here, five percent more had to be cared for than last week.
A total of 12,232 new cases were confirmed last week. The number of actively infected persons increased by 487 to 16,923 on Tuesday. The last time there was a similarly high number in Austria was about a month ago, on January 18, with 16,952 active cases.
More intensive care patients
On Tuesday, 1362 Covid-19 sufferers had to be treated in hospitals across Austria, 53 more than on Monday. There was a significant increase in the number of intensive care patients – compared to Monday, there were 16 more, 271 infected people needed intensive care. That is 13 more than a week ago.
The 1727 new infections were contrasted on Tuesday with 1203 significantly fewer newly recovered. Last Tuesday, 1427 new cases had been reported; on Tuesday two weeks ago, February 9, there had been 1197.
The number of deaths increased by 37 to already 8434 people who have died from or with Covid-19. Within the past week, 174 deaths were recorded. An average of 25 more deaths were added per day. Per 100,000 population, 94.8 people have already died from or with Covid-19.
Since the start of the pandemic, 448,371 people in Austria have already been confirmed to be infected with SARS-CoV-2. 423,014 are considered recovered. The most new infections since Monday were registered in Lower Austria with 483, 348 were in Vienna, 230 in Styria. Upper Austria and Salzburg each added 145 new cases, Carinthia 140. Burgenland reported 57 more infected on Tuesday, Vorarlberg 32.
